I am an experienced music teacher and have been teaching the piano for over 4 years now, having previously studied music at the University of York. I have achieved a merit at Grade 8 Piano (Trinity Guildhall) as well as a merit at Grade 8 Trumpet (ABRSM).
When it comes to my lessons, I try to make these as accessible as possible, tailored for each pupil's needs and preferences. I am happy to teach through grades or to work towards "homemade targets". At the end of the day, my main aim is to help people flourish in their music.
Putting in the work and time to figure out what is best for each pupil is definitely worth the reward! In addition to the piano, I also teach the trumpet up to grade 8 standard in all styles - you can read more about my trumpet tuition on my Music Teacher profile.
“I felt that his guidance and encouragement helped me progress and also gain confidence in what I’ve been able to learn. The lessons were relaxed and fun and I always felt I was encouraged to experiment which was perfect to help me to take those first few steps from classical into jazz”– Mary
As well as my tuition, I have worked extensively as an active musician performing in a jazz trio and occasionally as part of a larger function band.
Prior to moving to Belfast, I was also director of music at St. Thomas' church, York, which included running and conducting the St. Thomas' gospel choir.
I would be delighted to help you to learn to play the piano, especially if you are a beginner student interested in starting to learn this fantastic instrument.
